Contemporary Belgravia Mews House

 In British Interior Designers

Today’s design inspiration comes from a contemporary design Mews House located on a quiet Mews in the heart of London’s very exclusive Belgravia district.  This stunningly redeveloped Mews House, which included a complete layout alteration and a basement extension to increase the overall living space, has been completed by the London based property developer Residence One.  The interiors have been given a fully bespoke turn-key design by the interior design firm Laura Hammett.  Every architectural detail and finish, as well as every piece of furniture has been designed by Laura Hammett exclusively for this home. The property provides the ultimate in contemporary design and luxury bespoke specification.  Let’s take a little tour!

The 2,200 square-foot, three-bedroom residence has been arranged over three floors to the highest levels of specifications one would expect from a luxury home in this highly sought after location, which is after all, one of the wealthiest districts in the world.  The interiors have been beautifully appointed with the highest quality stone and fine finishes.  The bespoke design furnishings have all been hand-made and even the door handles and lighting fixtures were custom created for a truly one-of-a-kind luxurious home.

The property provides the ultimate in contemporary design and luxury bespoke specification.

In the opening photo we see the ground floor entrance into the home with its Carrera marble flooring with Nero Marquina marble inlay.  The entrance space gives access to the elegant helical stairs which provide access to the upper floor and the basement level below.  The custom designed staircase has been created with Carrera marble steps with recessed LED lighting and beveled mirrored walls that extend all three floors to direct light through to all levels.  A 23-foot bespoke design Serip Chandelier is suspended down through the center of the staircase whose light is further reflected through the entire house.  As is often the case with Mews houses, natural sources of light were not in abundance in all areas and creative solutions were developed to address this issue quite well in this home.

Just off of the entrance hall is the smart and sublimely chic living area.   The ceilings have been given a specialized high gloss finish which mirror the marble floors below and has the added benefit of catching and reflecting light.  The walls are softly upholstered to soften and absorb the effect.  Custom shelves and cabinetry have been created with fumed eucalyptus with mirrored inserts.  A bronze-framed bio ethanol fireline serves as the rooms focal point.  A pair of facing custom contemporary design sofas centered by a pair of cocktail tables are gathered on a bespoke inlayed rug to create the main conversation zone.

The Carrera marble floors and the high gloss ceilings are continued here in the formal dining room which is also located right off of the entry hall, though the walls have been upholstered in a dramatic darker shade for a more intimate setting.  The contemporary design furnishings were all designed specifically for the space.

The sleek and sophisticated design kitchen is even glossier still.  The marble flooring is continued, along with the high gloss on the ceiling which also includes a skylight which can be remotely changed from clear to opaque.  Handmade high-polished bronzed cabinets with walnut interiors have been paired with book-matched Carrera marble worktops and mirrored back-splashes.  The full range of appliances are by Gaggenau of course.  The marble island includes a breakfast bar.

The master bedroom is plush and inviting.  The floor is covered in a deep pile carpet and luscious layers of soft luxe fabrics; silk drapes, mohair upholstered headboard, exquisite bedding, etc., create a perfect haven for dreaming.  The chest at the foot of the bed conceals the pop-up television.  A pair of mirrored pocket doors separate the bedroom from its marble bathroom which includes a walk-in shower and a separate soaking tub.  The fixtures are from Samuel Heath and the mirrors have auto demisters.

A second, equally comfortable and stylish bedroom is also located on the first floor with its bath.  The third bedroom and its adjoining bathroom are down on the basement level.

Located off of the second bedroom upstairs is this terrace with cedar decking and trellis.  The walk-on glass floor here, is also the skylight noted earlier in the kitchen.

To complete our tour, we have the home theater located down on the bottom level along with the third bedroom.  There is also a powder room down on this level.  The walls of the theater room are composed of upholstered louvered wall panels with full LED lighting.  The 80″ cinema projector screen has been enveloped with a black glass wall surround.  The audio and visual equipment is masterfully integrated and cleverly placed out of sight.  The recreational space includes a marble top bar area and a drinks fridge as well.

Additional features included in this home include underfloor heating throughout the residence.  The whole place has been integrated and can be controlled with a Crestron home management system and it is equipped with all of the very latest in home security technology.  In addition, as a resident on the Grosvenor Estate, access is available on application for the Belgrave Square gardens and tennis courts.

That concludes our design inspiration for today my friends.  I hope you all have enjoyed this Contemporary Mews House.  This home just had a look that really appealed to me and I had to share it.  I love the understated luxury.  Yes, I literally fell in love most of all at first sight with the fabulous staircase, and I am so glad the rest of the house was fabulous too.  I hope you all found some wonderful ideas for your projects today.  Let me hear from you all in the comments!  Let me know what you all think of this residence?
