    Neo-Georgian Style English Estate

This newly built Neo-Georgian-style mansion features exceptional classic-inspired architecture set on extensively landscaped grounds in one of England’s more prestigious private estates.  The residence is finished to the highest specifications with a level of luxury and attention to detail not easily found.  Versatile living spaces, unsurpassed wellness, and leisure facilities, and uncompromising quality complete this Contemporary Classic with everything a discerning family could want in a luxury home.

The 14,000 square-foot residence spans three floors and stands on an acre lot within Surrey’s exclusive gated residential estate, St. George’s Hill.  The exterior facade is in a Neo-Georgian style in red brick with stucco detailing.  A central pediment over a canopied portico with sash windows, cornice, and balustrades all create a truly grand first impression.

A sweeping driveway leads to the entry of the home with a water feature forming the centerpiece.  A ramp leads off the drive around to the side entrance of the underground garage. The exceptionally manicured grounds include box hedges, mature trees, and flower beds.

    Neo-Georgian style entrance hall

The front door opens into the statement-making columned, double-height entrance hall. An opulent bespoke designed, nineteen-foot-tall chandelier sparkles down through the vast hall. Suede-covered walls and extensive millwork soften the marble floors. The home’s ground floor entertaining rooms flow out from this central location making it perfect for receiving guests.

    Neo-Georgian style formal living room

Shades of gray and purple dress the sophisticated formal living room. The tailored styling of the room with its classical architectural details reaffirms that this home is a Contemporary Classic. The design throughout supports today’s luxury lifestyle. The seating area arranges around the fireplace, which serves as the room’s focal point. Back-lighting illuminates the tray ceilings from within while a contemporary tiered chandelier in the center punctuates the room with glamour.

    Neo-Georgian style formal dining room

The formal living room leads through sliding pocket doors into the formal dining room. A large square table provides seating for twelve comfortably in custom upholstered chairs. A circular bespoke designed chandelier centers the space above the table. French doors open to the rear gardens and extend the entertaining space outdoors.

    Neo-Georgian style family room

The family room is centrally positioned at the rear of the home. The seating area grounds the spacious room with comfy upholstered furnishings. The atmosphere is relaxed and less formal but still excellent for guests. Grand French doors line the back wall to open the chamber to the rear gardens. The floor-plan is ideally suited for entertaining on a large scale and for enjoying everyday family life.

    Neo-Georgian style kitchen
    Neo-Georgian style breakfast room

The family room gives way to the light-filled, open-plan family kitchen and breakfast room. The custom-created kitchen includes white American Walnut cabinetry inset with US-sourced leather panels and marble countertops. The kitchen has a center island that includes an eat-in breakfast bar. All the appliances are by Gaggenau. Accordion doors across the outer wall of the breakfast room fold completely away to open the space fully to merge indoor and outdoor entertaining areas.  A separate service kitchen and pantry are adjacent.

    Neo-Georgian style study

The ground floor study evokes the feel of a Contemporary Classic Mayfair office. Bespoke designed hounds-tooth pattern wallpaper covers the walls. Various fabrics and textures layer to create depth and comfort. The color palette established in the rest of the rooms continues here.

    Neo-Georgian style spiral staircase

A sweeping spiral staircase leads down to the leisure floor or up to the gallery landing overlooking the entrance hall. Another bespoke chandelier cascades down through the center illuminating all levels.

    Neo-Georgian style master bedroom
    Neo-Georgian style dressing room
    Neo-Georgian style master bathroom

The master bedroom suite stretches the width of the home with large windows overlooking the landscaped rear gardens. Beige, taupe, and gray tones color the room, which includes a sitting area with a grand fireplace. Note the bedside cascading crystal lights and the upholstered wall behind the bed. I don’t know how well those lights function for typical bedside purposes, but they look nice in the photo.

On either side of the bedroom, there are two dressing rooms and two en-suite bathrooms. The custom-created dressing rooms feature beautiful, high-gloss back-lit, bespoke cabinetry. The spacious bathrooms feature book-matched Calacatta marble.  One has a beautiful free-standing soaking tub while the other has a walk-in waterfall shower.

    Neo-Georgian style guest bedroom A
    Neo-Georgian style guest bedroom B

Four other bedroom suites occupy the rest of the first floor, with some designed to be children’s bedrooms and some as beautiful guest suites.  Materials of the highest quality, including hand-made wallpapers, beautiful linens, and stunning soft furnishings complete the rooms.  Generous proportions define each of the suites which exhibit excellent design and use of light.

Throughout the residence, the technology specification is cutting edge. An inbuilt programmable audio system allows the resident’s music to flow with them as they move through the house. Other technological features of this Neo-Georgian-style mansion include a home automation system that controls the lights, audiovisual systems, blinds, temperature, and more via touch screens located throughout the property.

    Neo-Georgian style media room

The lower ground floor measures over 6,000-square-feet and holds the entertainment, wellness, and leisure facilities. The media room features an enormous 10-foot-wide cinema-style screen. Comfortable L-shaped sofas make this room perfect for relaxing with family and friends. This room also includes a refreshment bar.

    Neo-Georgian style spa lounge
    Neo-Georgian style hammam
    Neo-Georgian style sauna

The spa is quite luxurious.  It includes a hydrotherapy pool, a steam room lit with thousands of glittering LED lights, an aromatherapy dry sauna, and a central relaxation area. There is also a feature shower with three bespoke settings; tropical rain, cold mist, and Caribbean shower.

    Neo-Georgian style cigar wine room

Another unique room within this Neo-Georgian style home is a wine and cigar room. The special room includes bespoke designed storage that holds over 982 bottles and a large humidor. The room is completely climate-controlled to support the careful aging of wine. The designer equipped the room with extraction units for the enjoyment of the cigars.

The health facilities include the home gym which contains the latest in fitness technology. There is also a games room that has a large screen for video games and a bar-style pool table.

This lower level holds the garage parking with space for six cars, the laundry room, safe room, and the housekeeping suite of rooms.

    Neo-Georgian style ballroom floor up
    Neo-Georgian style ballroom floor down

This Neo-Georgian-style mansion also has a west wing devoted to the ballroom. It is over 41-feet-long and 26-feet-wide. A raised bar area at the front of the room will keep guests toasting you as they dance the night away.

When you are not hosting your social circle at night, with just a touch of a button the hydraulic floor descends to form a 33-foot-long swimming pool. You select the depth you want making it safe for children of all ages.

    Contemporary Classic Design: Sophie Paterson

Today we are taking a look at the Contemporary Classic designs of the London-based interior design director Sophie Paterson.  Sophie established her interiors company, Sophie Paterson Interiors, in 2008 at the age of 23 with no formal training but with plenty of good taste to spare.  She got her start in the design business when she had a developer over at her home to look at some plans she was considering.  He liked her decorating style so much that he asked her to do some work for him on his latest project.  She ultimately was given full design direction without any budget constraints and allowed to design the interiors of a large townhouse renovation with a basement extension.  Through working hands-on with the developer and his team of engineers, carpenters, and builders she was launched.

Since that time, Sophie has developed her company into one of the UK’s most successful interior design studios working on high-end projects in both the commercial and residential sectors across Britain and Europe.  She even published a book, Style & Glamour, which is filled with images from her projects that not only acts as a portfolio but also provides information and inspiration on how to create her signature Contemporary Classic interiors.  Together with her experienced team of talented design professionals, Sophie provides a personalized, relaxed design service.  She plans each project herself and gives it over to her design team who manage it.  Her style is both timeless and contemporary, with an expert use of color and texture and an innovative eye for design and approachable luxury.

For our design inspiration today, we are taking a look at a spacious five-story classic townhouse redesigned for contemporary life.

    CONTEMPORARY CLASSIC DESIGN INSPIRATION

sophie paterson chelsea townhouse contemporary classic living room details

Sophie spent two years immersed in the transformation of this five-story Chelsea townhouse that once belonged to David Bowie in the 1970s.  She completely reconfigured the 1860s residence working closely with the owners to create a unique and glamorous home that reflects their very particular taste.

A mix of antiques and contemporary furnishings fill the first-floor formal living room.  The owners wanted a design that appeared as though it had been collected over time and not necessarily by a professional designer.  The light-filled room features warm colors, rich textures, and luxe finishes.  Silk lines the walls to add a bit of luxury.  Geometric shapes emphasize the lines of the period architecture.  The mirrored, antique brass and ebony cabinets on either side of the fireplace are from Birgit Israel.  The leather furnishings are from Poltrono Frau.

On the ground level, guests enter the home here in the grand entrance hall with its high ceilings and period detailing. The generous space allowed for the modern pendant chandeliers from Jamb. The designer sourced the antique mirror from a favored local antique shop which she placed above a newer Macassar ebony console. This is a perfect example of combining the best of classic design with elements of contemporary design for a space ideally suited for today’s lifestyles.  That is the key to creating Contemporary Classic designs.  The hall leads into the very glamorous kitchen and dining room which spans the entire floor.

The kitchen is of complete bespoke design by Sophie Paterson Interiors. The Macassar ebony, Arabescato marble, and smoked mirror kitchen take inspiration from the Tom Ford makeup boutique in Selfridges. Gaggenau appliances blend harmoniously with the bespoke cabinetry. Low-level lighting complements the sophisticated design. An eat-in bar separates the kitchen and dining area.  The dining area includes a blue faux shagreen feature wall.  The dining table came with the house, left by the previous owners.  Both the new owners and the designer loved it and decided to keep it.  Beyond the kitchen, a small sitting area with French doors opens onto a paved garden with raised flower beds.

On the lower basement level, there is a guest bedroom with bath, a utility room, and a cozy home cinema.

The master bedroom suite is on the next level.  The look is very Ralph Lauren with a Ralph Lauren Home oversized four-poster bed serving as the focal point.  The room includes a Poltrona Frau leather armchair and a Macassar ebony dressing table, all gathered on an antique rug. Taupe leather upholstered wardrobe doors with bronze handles create another layer of texture and luxury.  The mood in the bedroom continues into the bath with Zoffany damask-covered walls and bronze Heathfield lamps.

Guest bedrooms make up the remaining top floors. The soft neutral colors and textures continue. Here we see more bedding from Ralph Lauren Home paired with zebra print Andrew Martin cushions. The bedside tables and lamps are from Porta Romana. At the foot is one of several antique collectible Louis Vuitton travel trunks placed throughout the home. The trunks are an ideal touch to imbue a contemporary room with classic style and elegance.

The house completes with a rooftop terrace with Alexander Rose furnishings.  The outdoor space provides a quiet get-away along with views across London.

That concludes our design inspiration for today, my friend.

    Sophie Paterson’s Contemporary Classic Design

It is no wonder Sophie Paterson Interiors has made its way to the top.  She has a natural eye.  She is an example to support the idea that one either knows design or they don’t.  Style, taste and a sense of what is correct are mostly innate gifts that one learns to channel.

  • Luxury Interior Design: Mayfair

    Luxury Interior Design: Mayfair

This elegant residence, finished in marble and gold leaf, set a new standard for luxury interior design in London’s Mayfair district. The exceptionally refurbished apartment is located on the city’s largest and oldest garden Square, Grosvenor Square.

Grosvenor Square is the centerpiece of the Mayfair property developed by the Duke of Westminster in the 1700’s. The area was designed to serve as residences for the fashionable elite of its time. Today, with three centuries of distinguished aristocratic history behind it, Grosvenor Square remains synonymous with style and luxury design.

This apartment is the creation of super-prime developer AION who brought in luxury interior design specialists 1508 London and Taylor Howes to complete the interior design and specification. It is ideally situated on the fourth floor with expansive views overlooking the garden. The 3,500 square-foot home features bespoke designs of the highest quality and fine attention to detail. The interiors combine clean, contemporary design with an understated classical elegance for a timeless mix of exquisite detailing and modern sophistication.

    LUXURY INTERIOR DESIGN INSPIRATION

Mayfair luxury interior design reception room B

The home’s double volume reception room spans 42 feet wide and boasts five south facing windows providing panoramic views. Here and throughout all the principal rooms, the white wall paneling and moldings feature hand-gilding with a gold leaf. A herringbone pattern completes the hand-laid solid oak floors. A full-height polished marble fireplace punctuates the room at both ends for balance. The spacious room holds both the formal living and dining spaces. A bespoke designed rosewood partition with antiqued bronze trim separates the two. On the living room side, leather inserts create bookshelves. Contemporary furnishings, upholstered in soft, neutral shades gather symmetrically on the custom silk and wool rug for a serene setting. I like this look a lot.

Mayfair luxury interior design dining room

The formal dining area includes a bespoke dining table that seats 10-12 comfortably with plush upholstered chairs arranged on a pale, cream-colored custom rug. On this side of the rosewood partition, antiqued mirror backing, and lower cabinets create a full bar feature wall.

Mayfair luxury interior design entrance hall

The entrance hall’s luxury interior design provides a stunning first impression for visitors. The spacious passageway radiates out from a central bespoke cube which the design team had entirely clad in antiqued mirror; laser etched with a diamond pattern for added interest. The mirrored cube captures and reflects the natural light from the reception room throughout the center of the home. The coffered ceilings, here and in all the principal rooms, glow from within with bespoke LED lighting features.  Low-level runway lighting creates a dramatic effect as it shines across the honed marble Serpeggiante floors. Gilded French salon chairs pair with an ebony console to emphasize the timeless appeal. The look is high gloss and glamorous.

Mayfair luxury interior design kitchen A

Mayfair luxury interior design kitchen B

The residence features a very sleek, custom-designed Modulnova kitchen with an eat-in breakfast area. Naturally, only the best-integrated appliances from Gaggenau and Miele complete this kitchen including a wine refrigerator, plate and food warming drawers, and soft touch controls. The marble floors continue from the hall in here with Silestone Quartz on the counter tops and backsplash.  Without a doubt, this is a seriously stylish kitchen.

Mayfair luxury interior design master bedroom

Mayfair luxury interior design master bedroom detail

The 19-foot-long master bedroom suite includes a large bedroom, a dressing room with floor-to-ceiling, hand-crafted, leather fronted wardrobes and the master bathroom. The entire suite features classical proportions complete with specialist materials of the finest quality and a bespoke lighting scheme. The same serene color palette established in the formal reception room continues in here.  Of course, the upholstered walls and deep pile carpet render the suite a tranquil cocoon.

Mayfair luxury interior design master bathroom

Mayfair luxury interior design master bathroom vanity

The spacious master bathroom’s luxury interior design features book-matched, polished statuary marble on the floors and the full height of the walls. The bespoke designed marble double vanity unit with high gloss oak fronting includes THG faucets. Very handsome indeed!

Mayfair luxury interior design guest bedroom

The residence includes four bedrooms, each with an en-suite marble bath and custom created dressing areas. Our last photo shows one of the guest suites with its bespoke headboard reaching the full height of the room. All of the bedrooms are supremely comfortable due to their customization and expert space planning.

The apartment also includes a private screening room.  A secluded little pocket theater, located adjacent to the reception room and kitchen area, provides a comfy spot just for relaxing and catching up on the latest shows.

Once on the market with its record-breaking asking price, the agents described it as a “jewel box” of perfection and luxury interior design. This description found agreement, as did the price, for the home quickly sold.

That concludes our design inspiration for today.

I hope you enjoyed the luxury interior design details of this apartment on one of London’s finest garden squares in Mayfair. Be inspired by the incredible transformation of this historic apartment into a sleek contemporary-classic home. One perfectly equipped with the best for today’s modern luxury lifestyle.
